After my father passed, we had no idea where to start with his estate. There was a will, but it was handwritten and we weren't sure it was valid. The Kemuncak team took the time to go through everything properly. The written summary we received after our first session was something we referred back to repeatedly over the following months.

We engaged Kemuncak for the full letters of administration process after my mother passed without a will. It took longer than I expected — nearly seven months — but that was the court's timeline, not theirs. They kept us informed throughout and handled everything without us needing to follow up repeatedly. Straightforward to work with.

My situation involved both civil assets and matters that fell under Faraid. I had seen two other lawyers beforehand and neither seemed entirely confident with the intersection of both systems. The practitioner at Kemuncak was specific and clear about how each element would be treated. That gave me a lot of confidence to proceed.

I came in for a Position Session to think through my own estate before I got any older. I wasn't in any crisis — just wanted to understand how to set things up sensibly for my children. The session was practical and calm. I left with notes I could actually use. Booked a second session a month later to go further.

There was a dispute among my siblings over how our father's business assets should be handled. The situation was tense and had been dragging on for nearly a year before we engaged Kemuncak. The practitioner helped us understand the legal position clearly, which took some of the heat out of the family discussions. Things are moving forward now.

I appreciated that they didn't try to sell me a service I didn't need. After the Position Session, I had enough information to handle a couple of things myself and knew which items genuinely required professional support. The written note was precise and useful. I'll come back when the more complex matters arise.

Engagement Case Studies
A closer look at three distinct client situations and how each was approached. Identifying details have been generalised.
Disputed Estate — Siblings and Business Assets
Situation
A family with three adult children and a deceased parent who had left behind a small manufacturing business and several properties. No will existed. Disagreement had developed over who should serve as administrator and how business assets should be valued.
Approach
Letters of administration were filed with an agreed administrator after separate consultations with each sibling helped establish a shared understanding of the legal requirements. A formal asset inventory was prepared. Business valuation methodology was outlined and agreed.
Outcome
Administration completed within nine months. Business transferred under agreed terms. All three beneficiaries received their entitlements. Family communication, while strained, was managed without resort to litigation.
"The practitioner never took sides. That made a real difference." — one of the beneficiaries
Forward Planning — Position Session Leading to Full Will
Situation
A client in her early fifties, recently widowed, with adult children from a previous marriage and a jointly owned property. She wanted to understand how her estate would be treated and whether her current arrangements were adequate.
Approach
A Position Session mapped out the current legal position across all asset classes. The session identified that existing EPF nominations required updating and that jointly held property would not pass as assumed without specific documentation. A will was subsequently drafted addressing each identified gap.
Outcome
Will drafted and executed, EPF nominations updated, property documentation reviewed. Client described the experience as clarifying rather than alarming — the session reframed estate planning as a practical task rather than a difficult subject.
"I came in anxious and left with a clear list of things to action." — the client
Complex Estate — Multi-Jurisdictional Assets and Trust Structures
Situation
A client with business interests in Malaysia and Singapore, minor children, and a desire to establish a structure that would manage the estate without placing full control in the hands of any single beneficiary immediately.
Approach
The Stewardship Engagement covered a full review of cross-border asset implications, drafting of a testamentary trust structure to manage assets during the minority of the children, coordination with local practitioners in Singapore on jurisdictional matters, and standing review counsel.
Outcome
Trust documentation drafted and executed. Malaysian and Singapore asset treatment aligned. Client continues with a standing counsel arrangement for annual review of the estate planning documentation as circumstances evolve.
"The scope was exactly what we needed — no broader, no narrower." — the client
